In this topic, we hope to cover all different options that people are doing to deal with their stinky sour armpits. In other words, Body Odor or BO for short. Since more than 90% of humans are dealing with these strong and aggressive odor in our underarms.
Keep in mind this formula, SWEAT + BACTERIA = BODY ODOR
This will be detailed as per our preference since most of us here have different statues in life. There are those who can spend with items, those who cannot afford and those who have no access to buy the necessary items but can use other available alternatives.
Remember when “Puberty strikes” we are speaking of teenagers who are searching for truth. They are currently in an adulthood ride right now and needs some guidance. Especially, if they don’t want to ruin their cool image in front of their friends and crushes. therefore, I will discuss some basic stuff for them as well.
So without further ado, let’s dig in right now.
Method 1: Always maintain proper hygiene
Wash your underarm everyday or Take a bath regularly.
I did not mention Daily since I respect the culture of other countries where people do not take a shower every day. I have friends in different nationalities that took every other day shower and some who have weekly schedule, normally on weekends.
I know that this is surprising to us folks who do shower everyday but they are surprised to us as well for taking daily showers. Much more if we take showers more than once per day.
We do not want to argue with this, but I noticed that most of them even manage to be free from bad odor.
Well I should not mention it here since most people will raise their eyebrows, saying that “we already know it, come on, cut the crap and proceed with other option”. I too will respond that way since that vey common knowledge to us.
Sadly, not all people are aware this very basic rule. It can be due to lack of common understanding or the culture they have grown to. But some people I know are just too plain lazy.
An underarm regular hand wash or using a wet towel is a very powerful alternative to clean your underarm on a daily basis. I strongly encourage all folks to apply this method every day.
Method 2: Use Deodorant or Antiperspirant
Our armpits typically got wet and stinky after tedious body movement or due to hot weather condition. We want to avoid it by using deodorant or antiperspirant. But what’s the difference? Aren’t they the same?
Well, they are not the same. The Deodorant is use to kill or prevent the bacteria in our underarm to multiply and to give good scent or fragrance that are quite powerful enough to overpower the sour scent you have. You would notice that deodorant’s main ingredient is alcohol to kill bacteria that are housing in those tight corners of the skin.
We are using Antiperspirant to minimize the sweat produced by our sweat glands by blocking the pores in it. You will know that it’s antiperspirant if you saw aluminum in its content.
So which one should you use?
Based on their difference, we should use antiperspirant if you sweat more or you know that you active tasks in your routine. If you will go to the gym or will hard labor works, you know now what to use.
If we think that we will not get sweat a lot for the day, we should use Deodorant instead. The purpose is to not block the pores in our body and we want the natural way of sweating to continue since it is healthy for our body. Though we want little sweating only to avoid the unwanted scenario .
Are there a combination of both?
Once it smells like alcohol or with fragrant scent, however there is aluminum content or it is saying that it will keep you dry, it is obviously a deo-antiperspirant. So it’s a combination of both.
The good news is that it is available to almost all stores and even small shops. Though a little pricey, considering for low income individuals or students with limited allowance.
Why we use deodorant or antiperspirant?
This is personal preference but I’m sure that most would agree.
First reason is that most deodorant and antiperspirant were designed to be effective in 24 hours.
Second reason is that it is already prepared for use or convenient.
Third thing is that it is compact and designed for easy storage. Have longer validity as compared to using the natural ingredients which will be discussed next.
As for my favorite, by using natural deodorant products. I recommend this if we don’t have a plan to do sweaty stuff within the day since it is less toxic and healthier for the body.
Method 3: Home-made remedies
Long before during the time of our great grandparents and beyond, deodorant and antiperspirants were not yet even born. So how the previous generations deal body odors?
You are right, by using natural ingredients and other common item available in our house. Few of our parents and some friends are still using this method, unknowingly. Since using natural remedies are quite effective and natural, it was preferred by conservative people.
Here are some of common ingredients to use by rubbing in the skin:
- Turmeric powder
- Neem leaves
- Baking soda/cornstarch
- Tea bags
- Rubbing alcohol
- Apple cider vinegar
- Essential oils
- Wheatgrass juice (not by rubbing, neat to drink it)
Most of the natural ingredients above can be used alone or best if combined with each other.
It depends for what is readily available in your home, backyard or nearby local shops. You can try to apply those and see what effective and complicated to do to you.
Method 4: Shave that Jungle Hair
As you may know, a great volume of armpit hair can greatly contribute to body odor. Those bacteria will have a lot of place to stay to and multiply, thanks to that jungle-like place.
So we prefer to reduce or totally remove underarm hairs. It is highly advisable especially for women who have excessive sweating. It will look neat and sexier as well.
For men, it is not a common practice since it is sign of adulthood for men same as growing beards. It may look less macho for most of the perception for shaved armpits. But if you think that your underarm stinks a lot, you might consider trimming it regularly. You will be amazed by its result, I guarantee you.
Method 5: Wear Breathable or Loose Clothes
To avoid a lot of body perspiration, we need to reduce our body temperature first, in a natural way. The easiest way to do this is by wearing loose or breathable clothes. It will also help to reduce the underarm sweat much faster.
Wear clothes made with cotton or any natural fibers. Avoid ultra dark color of shirts as the smell is stronger. Always choose light colored clothes.
If possible, always bring towels and extra clothes. You never know when you might need it.
