There are a lot of ways for armpit hair removal. You can use razors, tweezers, epilators, wax, and depilatories to get rid of your armpit hair. You can perform Laser Hair Removal and IPL treatment, as well, or use home remedies for practicality. It depends upon your comfortability as long as it’s safe. Trim it instead of shaving it for all I care. Do what makes your armpit happy!
Trivia about your armpit hair (This is science!)
Have you ever asked yourself the reason why we grow hair underarms? Armpit hair or axillary hair showed up like a fungus the moment we hit our adolescence stage! For what reason? The pituitary gland activates the sex hormones referred to as androgens resulting in hair growth. Interesting, right? Removing our armpit hair might sound more intriguing to you, for it minimizes body odor. Who wanted to smell awful anyway? Definitely, not me! How about you?
It’s either bald or just a new haircut! Shave or trim?
It’s none of anyone’s business to tell you what to do with your armpit hair. If you wished to shave it, then so be it! If you don’t, then who cares? But if you would like to minimize the body odor, it’s advisable to, at least, trim your armpit hair once in a while.
What are the advantages or benefits of armpit hair removal?
Why take the risk of shaving your armpit hair if it will not benefit you at all? Like what I’ve stated above, shaving or trimming your armpit hair would reduce body odor. It will cause you to sweat less as well. It will help boost your confidence, especially if you find stubbles less attractive. Yet, of course, that’s up to you and your physique preferences!
Methods of armpit hair removal
There are a lot of ways to get rid of your armpit hair, either temporarily or permanently. It includes:
-
Laser Hair Removal
Willing to endure the pain for the sake of beauty? No more! Laser Hair Removal is a painless, albeit expensive alternative for armpit hair removal. Unfortunately, exclusion from the treatment is possible if you possess very tiny and thin hair underarms, for this is harder to be plucked up by the laser. Exclusion for the darker skin tones is possible as well, for the treatment might burn the skin. Both are advised not to do the procedure to avoid complications. The DIY lasering session should be done once a month in eight months for the best result.
-
Intense Pulsed Light Hair Removal (IPL)
IPL Hair Removal is similar to Laser Hair Removal. The only difference is the light source used in IPL. Also, like the Laser Hair Removal, IPL is not recommended for darker skin tones, for it might also burn the skin.
How to discern Laser Hair Removal from the IPL Hair Removal? Simple! IPL uses a scattered wavelength that generates heat, and that is what damages the follicles. It is an effective treatment for rosacea and facial flushing. Laser Hair Removal, on the other hand, produces a specific wavelength, making it more effective.
-
Waxing
Waxing is safe for everyone, albeit painful than the first two aforementioned above. Once waxed, your armpit hair will grow back thinner and softer than your previous one. Waxing is not a permanent solution to armpit hair, unlike the IPL and Laser Hair Removal. Yet, this is a fun method if you enjoy torture and endurance for the sake of beauty (note my sarcasm there!)
As long as we are free from the clad of armpit hair, then why not?
-
Shaving
Who hasn’t experienced shaving yet? I doubt there is. Shaving is everyone’s first love during our early adolescence stage. Shaving your armpit hair is the easiest, quickest, and cheapest method of hair removal. Yet, shaving can only remove the hair from the surface, leaving the roots to grow back the next day.
It is essential to invest in a high-quality razor if you’re into shaving to avoid complications such as rashes, possible bleeding or wound, razor burn, and skin discoloration. Make sure to be smart when buying your razor.
-
Depilatory Creams
If you do not want to go through the same painful process of shaving or waxing, depilatories are suitable for you! I’ve tried depilatory cream before, and it works on me. You only have to apply it on your underarms, wait for a minute or two ’til it’s no longer sticky, and then remove it using tissue or wipes. That’s how easy depilatories to apply. The drawback of using a depilatory product would be its side effects for those with sensitive skin.
Since Depilatories use a chemical to melt the follicle hairs on your armpit, you might earn a chemical burn from using it. Other skin reactions could be redness, itchiness, hives, and blisters. So, make sure to consult your dermatologist first before using a particular depilatory cream product to avoid skin complications.
-
Epilating
Have you tried tweezers to pluck out your unwanted hair underarms? How about an epilator with more than one tweezer on it? Can you already imagine how painful that could be?
Epilating is like waxing but without the use of wax. It’s like tweezing but in a more advanced way. There are several risks when using epilators. You can avoid the probable complications by exfoliating your underarms first before epilating.
-
Pluck it with tweezers!
Who does not know this method? Haven’t you tried this at home in exchange for few coins? Tweezer is our source of income. Our childhood! Tweezing is a painful process of plucking out your armpit hair that I wished not to experience. It is also time-consuming, but it’s safe to assume that this is less painful than waxing, or maybe not.
Alternative Remedies to try at home!
-
Sugaring
Are you afraid of waxing? or possessed an armpit skin sensitive to wax? You’re not alone! That’s the reason why DIY Sugaring exists. Have you heard about this method already? Perhaps, have given it a thought? Aside from the fact that it’s not as expensive as the other methods mentioned above, this is easy to make as well!
DIY sugaring consists of a mixture of sugar, lemon juice, and water. Heat the mentioned ingredients ’til it boils. Apply your DIY sugar wax to your armpit hair once it finally cooled down. That easy!
To make it easier, you can also buy a sugar wax instead of making one.
-
Lemon and Sugar Pack
If you didn’t only wish to remove your armpit hair but to lighten the dark areas of your underarms, as well, then this is a suitable home remedy for you to try!
This procedure is similar to sugaring. The only difference is that this could help lighten your skin as well.
-
Egg white and corn flour pack
This home remedy might smell bad due to the egg white involved, but rest assured that this would help thin your armpit hair. It would exfoliate your underarms as well. Make sure to wipe off the excess once finished.
-
Milk and Turmeric Pack
Consistency is a must, and patience is a virtue! If you would like to try this home remedy, make sure you have those characteristics because it might take some time to see its effectiveness. Similar to the egg white and cornflour pack procedure, this helps thin your armpit hair as well while lightening your underarms.
-
Lemon and Honey Pack
You’re a certified fan of home remedies if you know this duo very well. This procedure works gradually, but surely! It moisturizes and lightens your underarms, as well, leaving you with thin armpit hair growth along the process.
-
Papaya and Turmeric Pack
Papaya and Turmeric pack combination won’t remove your armpit hair, but it helps break down the hair follicles, so the hair fiber will no longer grow back.
Precautions Measures for Safe Armpit Hair Removal
Do not try waxing if you’re currently under these medications:
-
Antibiotics
-
Hormone replacement therapy
-
Accutane
-
Hormonal birth control
-
Retin-A
Hydrate your skin with lukewarm water to make it soft and easy to wax. If you have skin complications, make sure to consult with your doctor or dermatologist first before proceeding to any of the mentioned methods of armpit hair removal above.
